Streaming…
The increasingly insistent sound of summer evening rain:
Distracting, seductive, sweetly soothing,
Strumming and drumming against the roofs…
Against the roofs,
Upon each windowpane,
That gently splashing pattern repeats:
Distracts, seduces, soothes,
Soothes, seduces, enchants…
And the initially whispered, murmured, oh-so-sensuous
Nighttime yearning serenade of rain continues
Streaming,
Cascading,
Seamlessly downloading from the pervasive cloud
Through warmed, softened air,
Tumbling through rustling foliage,
Freshly scenting verdant garden growth…
Swelling to a crescendo —
A dark torrent loudly rushing and gushing
Down slick, silvered sidewalks —
The rhythmic percussion later subsides,
Flowing,
Like impossibly slender fingers stroking keys,
Steadily beaten out in subtle city-jungle drum-and-bass, Beating
All along the pulsating, vibrant, urban arteries
Of glistening ebony streets.
