Taste of the Middle East Event

Over 1,000 Syrians have made their home in Hamilton over the last year. At Taste of the Middle East, try Syrian food, listen to the sounds of Syrian music, and find exquisite holiday gifts, all well-supporting newcomers in Hamilton.

This two-day event organized by the Immigrants Working Centre showcases local newcomer talent and craftsmanship just in time for the festive season. Isn’t that what the special season all about, a celebration of beauty and togetherness? It offers you the opportunity to do your Christmas shopping while supporting immigrants and refugees who have newly relocated to Hamilton.

You will find original paintings, accessories made from nature and eco-friendly materials, natural beauty products, crochet and knitted goods, home decoration accessories and more.There will be delicious food prepared by seasoned Syrian chefs. You will get to enjoy a taste of the Middle East and a variety of cuisine, desserts, and appetizers. Traditional Syrian band, Yasmeen Al Sham, will be performing on Saturday.

The Immigrants Working Centre will be selling an exclusive holiday collection of the Ladida beauty and skincare products. This high-end collection of natural and organic products will fight inequality with every purchase while supporting the settlement of immigrants and refugees. The collection includes spa-quality bath and body products, skin care items, baby balms and lotions, and men’s products such as aftershave and beard balm. All are made with organic ingredients.

Taste of the Middle East will feature over 15 newcomer vendors including:

Mojaone – Fairtrade home décor and soapstone carvings, founded by Hamilton’s Selbina Mwendwa and now employing over 50 women in Kenya.

Maisa Designs – Handmade in Hamilton crocheted goods for all ages by Maria Isabel.

Miluz Art – Jewelry made from seeds, beans, orange peels and eco-friendly products by Olenky Romero.

Hanadi Bader – Original paintings on canvas, ceramics, and glass by Ancaster-based artist Hanadi Bader.
