There’s a Greyhound dog meet and greet this Friday

Hamilton is home to a wide assortment of dog breeds. Big to little, short coat to long coat, and laid-back to rambunctious — you are guaranteed to see all kinds of dogs around town.

However, despite being the mascot for the Greyhound Lines bus company and one of the oldest dog breeds, the general public doesn’t know much when it comes to Greyhounds. Most people have never even met one before.

To shine a spotlight on the breed, the newly opened Bring Your Dog Café is hosting a Greyhound meet and greet Friday March 30th alongside Greyhound Lovers of Hamilton-Wentworth (GLOHW).

Starting at 11 a.m., you will be able to meet GLOHW community members and their retired racers. Greyhound owners will get to gush about their dogs, debunk Greyhound myths, and teach other dog lovers about this amazing breed. There’s really no better time to get acquainted with the dogs then this weekend!

GLOHW is a non-profit organization operating out of Hamilton that exists to aid in the adoption of retired racing greyhounds. Established in 1997, GLOHW has found over 600 Greyhounds their forever homes. Through members bringing their Greyhounds to public meet and greets, GLOWH is able to raise awareness about the breed for the purpose of education and to find future adopters.

So if you’re looking for something to do this Easter weekend, visit Bring Your Dog Café and meet some Greyhounds. The cafe serves food and drink, but most importantly you can bring your pupper too (doesn’t matter which breed)!

Sounds like a terrific way to start the long weekend off right if you ask me.
