There’s going to be a feminist film fest in Hamilton this week

A unique and exciting film festival is coming to Hamilton’s Playhouse Cinema this week. What’s so unique about it? Two things: each film is under 20 minutes in length, and each one is created by a female-identifying filmmaker.

That’s the entire point of LUNAFEST, a film festival that has been showcasing diverse and ground breaking feminist short works by some of the world’s most exciting new voices in filmmaking since its inception in the year 2000.

The festival this year, which will be taking place at the fabulously renovated Playhouse Theatre in Hamilton’s east end, is presented by Zonta Hamilton, a local branch of an international organization that endeavours to empower women through service and advocacy.

Eight short films running between 3 and 17 minutes each have been curated for this year’s festival, tackling topics like sexuality, love, loss, family, immigration, and coming-of-age in film genres ranging from comedies to dramas and documentaries. All films will be presented together in one afternoon line-up on Sunday October 27th at 2 pm.

If you’re eager to get a first look at the future of film, head on over to the Playhouse Cinema and check out LUNAFEST!

LUNAFEST 2019 takes place at the Playhouse Cinema (177 Sherman Ave. N) on Sunday October 27th at 2 pm. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased here. You can also check out the line-up of films on the LUNAFEST website.
