These two Hamilton restaurants are feeding firefighters for free today

Two of downtown Hamilton’s hottest restaurants are back at it again this week, cooking up delicious meals and feeding more of the city’s frontline workers who continue to provide essential services during COVID-19 and put themselves at risk each day.

Popular taco joint Mezcal and gastropub One Duke – two foodie fixtures of James Street South – have been hard at work spearheading this weekly initiative, for which they select a different category of essential workers in Hamilton and show them some love and gratitude with the offer of a hot meal on the house.

Now entering its fifth week, past weeks of this generous initiative have seen these two titanic food staples recognizing the efforts of retirement staff, paramedics, HSR operators, and bank employees.

This week, another more-than-worthy group of city workers is in the spotlight: firefighters.

Between 3 pm and 8 pm today, Wednesday May 20th, Hamilton’s firefighters can stop by either Mezcal or One Duke and be treated to a free meal.

“Firefighters are always there for our communities when called upon,” said Mezcal and One Duke on social media. “So this time around we want to be there for you, and be the first responders to your hunger needs.”

Mezcal and One Duke’s generous initiative will continue week by week, with new essential workers recognized and fed each time.
