A staple in the Westdale community for nearly three decades, independent bookstore Bryan Prince Bookseller located in the Westdale village is shutting its doors for good today.
Co-owner Kerry Cranston-Reimer broke the news Monday in a public email, which has received a lot of love and support from the community.

Books on the shelves are 30% off their regular price and whatever doesn’t sell will be returned to the publishers.
While Cranston-Reimer says she doesn’t want the closure to play into the ongoing conversation about ebooks and online retailers like Amazon killing physical books and independent bookstores, she does send out a humble request asking people to please “try to remember the emotion of losing a small business” before making an online purchase.
“Every time you [checkout with your mouse], you’re one step closer to losing a small business,” she explains.
Over the past few years, Bryan Prince began a number of new initiatives to spur up new life into the business including a program it launched last spring that offered quiet workspaces to local writers and a renovation revealed in February 2017 that featured a community hub and events space.
Quill & Quire writes, “Events in the new space included book launches, readings, book-club meetings, and a partnership with gritLIT festival. Bryan Prince was also offering use of the space to non-profits free of charge.”
Bryan Prince Bookseller will be open until 9 p.m. today. Please go out and show your support as they close the final chapter on their own story.
