Top 10 Patios in Hamilton for 2023

The summer weather is finally here, and with it comes the most wonderful time of the year: patio season.

Within Hamilton’s bustling food & drink scene, there are numerous spots boasting beautiful patios with lounge-ready seating, beautiful views, fun activities, or all of the above. If your favourite thing is to kick back with a bite and a pint under the sun, this curated list of our 10 best patios in Hamilton for 2023 should be right up your alley. Let’s get right to it!

Rapscallion & Co.

A James North gem that balances fine dining indulgences with a playful nose-to-tail approach, Rapscallion & Co. is certainly looking spiffy inside the former home of Ventura’s Restaurant.

But what some may not know is that Rapscallion also boasts a beautiful and sizeable back patio, complete with soft astroturf underfoot and a nicely spacious layout; no two tables are too close together. It’s the perfect spot to grab a cocktail or two alongside standout dishes like the short rib or their famous chicken liver brûlée.

 Bernie’s Tavern

The very definition of laidback, Bernie’s large back patio at their Cannon Street restaurant and bar is loaded with plenty of picnic tables, shaded seating, and chill vibes.

Bernie’s Tavern brings its A-game to a menu of elevated pub-style comfort food like pan pizzas, burgers, steak dinners, and so much more. Serving brunch, lunch, and dinner, there’s never a bad time of day to grab a seat on the airy patio and tuck into something delicious.

Black Forest Inn

This longstanding Hamilton staple has been serving up traditional German and Austrian comfort food to a loyal customer base for decades.

Black Forest Inn recently upped its game at its International Village restaurant by opening a lovely Biergarten: the perfect place to indulge in a sizeable house-made schnitzel and a pint or two of a floral, clean German lager.

Fairweather Brewing Co.

If you want to sip on some of the best craft beer in Ontario while sitting under the warm summer sun, this is your place.

Fairweather Brewing’s reputation for exceptional craft beer extends well beyond Hamilton’s borders, and their large front patio, partially wrapping around the brewery’s facade, is the perfect size to accommodate beer lovers from near and far. Whether you’re crushing their flagship High Grade IPA or a balanced fruited sour, it’s hard not to have a great time at this place.

Gown & Gavel

Hess Village wouldn’t be the same without this longstanding pub and its large, standout summer patio.

The Gown & Gavel boasts Hamilton’s largest patio space, making it a prime outdoor spot to grab a bite and a beverage while doing some people-watching. This spot’s menu of classic pub dishes – from burgers to salads to shareable apps – nicely complete the picture.

Collective Arts Brewing

Collective Arts Brewing was one of the local pioneers of the modern craft beer movement, and their growth in recent years has been nothing short of astronomical.

Their Burlington Street brewery now sports a sizeable beergarden where locals can grab a pint or two of Collective Arts favourites like the Life in the Clouds IPA or Jam Up the Mash dry-hopped sour. Expect numerous fun events and food throughout the summer as well!

 radius

This James South favourite puts local ingredients and chef-driven recipes front and centre, but they’ve also got a reputation for their noteworthy, multi-level outdoor patio.

Radius Restaurant recently announced its forthcoming move to the Hess Village dining scene, so their days at James South and Augusta are numbered; but there’s still time to pop by this summer and kick back on a patio that’s widely considered to be among the city’s best.

 Grain & Grit Beer Co.

If you’re hitting up Fairweather Brewing, why not hope right across the street for another round of beers at the ever-popular Grain & Grit?

On top of making great beer in contemporary styles, Grain & Grit is also one of the Hamilton area’s most community focused breweries. Their fun and lively front patio is regularly packed to the gills, and with good reason: there’s hardly a time where there isn’t some sort of event or food pop-up taking place.

 Limani at Fifty

Located within Fifty Point Conservation Park, you won’t find a patio in Hamilton with better views than Limani at Fifty.

This 5,000 square foot waterside patio sits among the boat docks at the Fifty Point marina, giving locals access to a waterfront dining experience unlike anything else in the city. With a menu favouring authentic Greek cuisine as well as some comfort fare like burgers, Limani at Fifty is no slouch in the food department either. As a summer patio destination, this is a must.

 Barangas on the Beach

This bustling beachside restaurant has been going strong for three decades with very good reason: the food is great, and the patio offers up quintessential summer vibes.

Barangas on the Beach, located along Van Wagner’s Beach, serves up Greek, Mediterranean, and casual pub-style fare on a large and comfortable patio perfect for lounging in the sun with a bite to eat and a drink or two. It really doesn’t get much better than this.
