Two Hamilton pizzerias compete at International Pizza Expo in Las Vegas

Two Hamilton heavyweights in the pizza scene are bringing their best pies to an international competition.

MaiPai Tiki Bar and Cowabunga Pizzeria – which both made our Top 10 Hamilton Pizza Spots list this year in first and second place, respectively – have flown out to Las Vegas to compete at the 38th International Pizza Expo and Conference.

Running from March 22nd to 24th, this expo sees representatives from pizzerias come together from dozens of countries worldwide, making it the world’s largest gathering for those working in the craft of pizza-making.

Salar Madadi, owner of MaiPai Tiki Bar, is bringing his A-game with a Detroit-style pizza that has already won top national honours at the Canadian Pizza Summit: the Mala Honey Pie, topped with spicy mala sauce, Thai basil, chili crisp, pickled chili, scallions, asiago cheese, and homemade scotch bonnet honey.

In fact, Madadi’s national win is what earned him a ticket to the International Pizza Expo, where that pie is now going head-to-head against other top-rated pizzas from around the world.

Meanwhile, Andy Hyunh – co-owner and co-founder of Cowabunga Pizzeria – is also representing the Hammer in Vegas, showing off what Cowabunga does best: pies that balance a playful culinary approach with a serious, chef-driven focus on quality.

We’re cheering on these two exceptional Hamilton pizza spots as they help put the Hammer on the map at this prestigious international event!
