Weekend events in Hamilton August 4-5 2018

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Look no further. We’ve found a wide range of events across the city for all ages and interests to enjoy.

Here’s what’s happening in Hamilton this weekend.

Saturday

Rockton Festival of Witchcraft and Wizardry

If you love the wizarding world of Harry Potter, you can’t miss the first annual Rockton Festival of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The festival includes Quidditch, Ministry of Magic Offices, classes, Duels, trivia battles, costume contests and more. Test your knowledge, pick up one-of-a-kind merchandise and meet other Potterheads that are still waiting for their letter from Hogwarts.

The festival takes place at the Rockton Fairgrounds and runs from 9 am to 9 pm. Tickets cost $40 and are available online. This is an all ages event.

Ancaster International Cat Show

Cat lovers, rejoice! Clawsome Cats presents an all day celebration dedicated to our favourite felines. Learn about all different breeds, both pedigreed and non-pedigreed, and meet some new furry friends.

The Cat Show will feature vendors, eats and treats, breed presentations and giveaways.

Ancaster International Cat Show takes place at the Ancaster Fairgrounds. The show runs from 10 am to 4 pm and is open to all ages. Adult admission is $8, while children under 12 are $5. Tickets can be purchased in advance online.

Festival of Friends

Festival of Friends is one of the most highly anticipated events of the summer. Running annually since 1976, this free outdoor festival celebrates music, arts, and all things Canadian.

The festival features live music, crafts, food vendors, an escape room and plenty of fun things to do for the kids. The headlining musical acts gracing Saturday’s stages are Shawn Austin, High Valley and The Handsome Devils.

Festival of Friends takes place at Gage Park. All ages are welcome to this free festival, but make sure you bring your wallet to pick up some goodies.

As the festival runs from 12 – 11 pm, we suggest wearing sunscreen and drinking plenty of water.

Dundurn Castle Garden Tours

Visit Dundurn Castle this weekend to enjoy stories and historic gardening knowledge conveyed by the Castle’s garden staff.

The tour’s presentations begin at 12:30 pm and 2 pm, respectively. Each tour will teach visitors what it was like for Dundurn’s Kitchen Garden staff to cater to the MacNab family 150 years ago.

This event takes place at Dundurn Castle and is open to all ages. The garden tour is free, but admission rates will apply if you wish to visit the museum.

Chicago – A Live Production

Slick your hair and buckle your shoes, Hamilton, because Chicago’s coming to town.

Presented by Zamprogna Arts and performed by the students of their Summer Theatre Programme, Chicago is a musical comedy drama that tells the story of two rival vaudevillians in the roaring twenties.

The production takes place at the Zoetic. There will be two performances – one at 2 pm and the other at 7 pm. Tickets begin at $32 and are available online.

Jephs VGHQ Game Swap

Join Jephs VGHQ for their first ever video game swap.

Whether you want to buy, sell or trade, there’s plenty of gaming related items up for grabs. Looking for the latest release? How about that classic you’ve been looking everywhere for? Try your luck and check out the swap.

The swap will be held at Mizeners Market and admission is $1. The game swap starts at 12 pm and runs until 4 pm.
