Winners announced for 2022 Hamilton Arts Awards

Each year, the City of Hamilton Arts Awards recognize exceptional residents working in a wide variety of creative disciplines, from theatre to music to fine craft and beyond.

The city has just announced its thirteen winners for the 2022 Hamilton Arts Awards, honoured for their work and its community and industry impact.

In a different format from previous years of the Arts Awards, the recipients have been announced prior to any in-person events, with celebrations planned to take place as a multi-venue experience during Hamilton Arts Week in June.

This year’s Creator Award recipients include theatre artist Donna-Michelle St. Bernard, cartoonist Joe Ollmann, painter Marla Panko, multidisciplinary artist Santee Smith, filmmaker Terrance Odette, ceramic artist Emma Smith, media artist Kristina Durka, poet and children’s book author Jaclyn Desforges, and storyteller Yuma Dean Hester of Bawaadan Collective.

The 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award was given to blues legend Harrison Kennedy, and three Arts Champion Awards were presented to Jamie Smith, David Beresford, and Nancy Benoy and Cornelia Peckart of the Arts to Go Podcast.

A total of $29,000 in prize money has been awarded to the recipients, with the Lifetime Achievement and Creator Award winners receiving $2,500 and a bronze medallion.
