Winter storm expected to hit Hamilton

Looks like Hamilton will be getting its first true winter storm of the season this week.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Hamilton area, forecasting snow and freezing rain to hit early Thursday morning.

Local snowfall amounts are expected to reach up to 5 centimetres throughout the day, and the freezing rain will likely create some slippery walking and driving conditions.

The forecast also predicts some hefty wind gusts of as much as 80 kilometres per hour throughout the day on Thursday. Some local power outages, as well as damage to trees and properties, is possible as well.

Environment Canada warns of icy, slippery roads as a result of the forecasted storm; locals who need to walk or drive anywhere on Thursday are advised to allow extra travel time to account for the less-than-optimal conditions.
