Ontario residents will be able to pick up a couple of cold ones at their local convenience store in the near future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
An announcement from the Ford government<\/a> this month reveals that beer, wine, cider, coolers, seltzers, canned cocktails, and other low-alcohol beverages will be available for purchase at participating convenience, grocery, and big box stores province-wide.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n The move will go into effect no later than January 1st, 2026, in line with the expiration of the Master Framework Agreement between the Ontario government and Brewers Retail Inc (The Beer Store), which limited the number of retail stores that could be authorized to sell alcohol since 2015.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Spirits including gin, vodka, rum, and beyond will continue to be sold through the LCBO, and both the LCBO and The Beer Store will continue their retail operations in the new marketplace.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Last week, @fordnation<\/a> and I announced the largest alcohol retail expansion since the end of prohibition almost 100 years ago.
