On Saturday March 21st, Hamilton Public Health Services declared an outbreak of coronavirus at a long-term care home after two residents tested positive for COVID-19.
The two cases, confirmed through testing, were within a day of each other at Heritage Green Nursing Home in Stoney Creek.
The first case was reported on March 18th, involving an 80-year-old woman who lives at the residence.
The following day, a 55-year-old female resident became symptomatic and was tested. According to the agency, results on Saturday morning confirmed she had COVID-19.
The 55-year-old woman was not hospitalized and remains in isolation at the nursing home.
Public health declares outbreaks when there are two or more confirmed cases of an illness in a facility.
The facility remains closed to visitors as Heritage Green is continuing to isolate the entire floor of the nursing home.
There are currently 24 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Hamilton region as of Saturday at noon.
