Art Crawl – a scrappy street event in Hamilton that highlights artists, artisans, and makers – is back on James Street North this Friday, May 10th.
A recurring event for over a decade, Art Crawl puts the city’s arts, music, and culture scenes at the forefront, letting locals explore galleries, art installations, shops, restaurants, and small businesses along James North while experiencing special features unique to each Art Crawl event.
Historically, the event has been a grassroots one; more of a ‘happening’ than a structured event, without an organization taking the lead on its operations.
That has somewhat changed with the City of Hamilton’s new involvement in closing most of James North to vehicle traffic on Art Crawl nights; something the city began doing last year to make the even more pedestrian-friendly.
As we approach May, people are starting to think about Friday art crawls on James Street North. The street will be closed, from York Boulevard to Murray Street, on May 10, June 14, July 12, and August 9 from 6:00pm to 11:00pm. Hope to see you out there #HamOnt! pic.twitter.com/vHh27oxvZU

The same will happen this evening – Friday, May 10th – with James Street North fully closed to vehicles between York Boulevard and Murray Street from 6 pm to 11 pm.
HSR buses that typically travel James North as part of their routes will still run as scheduled but will take a detour around the James North strip beginning at 5 pm and lasting until roughly 11 pm.
Other upcoming Art Crawl nights this summer that will be affected include June 14th, July 12th, and August 9th.
