The City of Hamilton’s mayor Fred Eisenberger will be tested for COVID-19 on Friday after experiencing symptoms of the disease on Thursday morning.
A media release issued by his office says that the testing is being done out of an abundance of caution.
Eisenberger has been self-isolating at home since developing symptoms. The virtual town hall meeting scheduled for Thursday evening was cancelled due to the circumstance.

Staff and others who have come into contact with the mayor over the last week have also been advised to monitor their wellbeing and regularly check for symptoms.
Hamilton public health reported five new coronavirus cases on June 25th with reported cases among youth still on the rise.
Face masks and coverings are still not mandatory in public spaces, even with the city firmly in phase two of the province’s reopening plan.
For those displaying symptoms of COVID-19, testing is available through appointment only and can be scheduled through a family doctor or Hamilton Public Health Services.
