After weeks of being closed, the escarpment stairs are set to reopen on Saturday, June 6th.
Mayor Fred Eisenberger announced during Tuesday afternoon’s COVID-19 update that city crews will be removing barriers at the top and bottom of each set of stairs on Friday.

Physical distancing guidelines will still be in place for users of the escarpment stairs.
The city is also urging people to follow the provincial instructions of not gathering in groups of more than five people.
The stairs have been closed from public access for about two months. Mayor Eisenberger encourages people to be diligent about washing their hands after touching the hand rails and using the stairs.
Although some trails and walkways have started to reopen, the city is reminding residents that parks and sports fields remain closed for large gatherings and organized sports.
The escarpment stairs has been one of the hottest contested closures of the coronavirus shutdowns. In March, stair climbers were coming from all over Ontario to walk up the escarpment after stay at home restrictions were put in place.
The city consistently had to step-up barrier enforcements as people continued to bypass and damage fences and signage well into the COVID-19 lockdown.
