Fairweather Brewing releases special 2019 edition of Wishing Well

Of the dozens upon dozens of breweries peppered all over Ontario, very few are pumping out craft beer of the same consistent level of quality and excellence as Hamilton’s own Fairweather Brewing.

The West Hamilton brewery and tasting room, located a short walk from McMaster University and across the street from other local beer staple Grain&Grit, is known for exceptional hopped-up fare and wildly experimental sours that pretty much always hit the mark. But the brewery has just released an exciting, special end-of-year commemorative beer that’s a bit of a change of pace.

Wishing Well, the 2019 variant of a similar release in 2018, is a rich, earthy imperial stout sporting a big, boozy 10% ABV and aged on a mélange of exquisite curated ingredients including vanilla; Jamaican rum-soaked hazelnuts; toasted coconut; and catuai, a Costa Rican coffee varietal.

I got my hands on this 2019 vintage to give it a try, and wow, it really is something special; sweet and playful, without sacrificing depth or sophistication. It essentially tastes like a boozy rum-soaked hybrid of a Crunchie Bar and a Coffee Crisp, with an intensity on the palate that only increases as the beer acclimates to room temperature. Viscous and silky in mouthfeel, and goes down so smoothly with barely a kiss of alcohol heat.

This beer, packaged gorgeously in a shareable 750 ml bottle, is the perfect gift for the local beer lover in your life; one that can be enjoyed right this moment, or aged in your cellar so the beer can develop and mature for a year or two (if you can wait that long, that is).

Go grab a bottle or three of the 2019 Wishing Well at Fairweather Brewing, and while you’re at it, make some stops at Grain&Grit, Merit Brewing, Collective Arts, and Clifford Brewing to load up on local brews aplenty for the holiday season!
