Hamilton climate activists dump cow manure on Doug Ford’s office doorstep

Climate activists with the Hamilton chapter of Extinction Rebellion dumped cow manure outside Doug Ford’s office in Etobicoke on Sunday.

A video of the group of activists shovelling manure onto the doorstep of the Ontario Premier’s office went viral on Twitter. The activists declared that Ford’s climate strategy is “a load of crap” in a release to the media

“We are here to deliver a message that the Ford Conservative government climate change plan is complete bull— and total crap,” said activist Cameron Topp in the release.

“The Ford Conservatives base their climate change strategy on lies and crackpot theories rather than scientific fact.”

In the release, the group claims that elected members of the provincial government such as Joe Oliver, who leads the board of the Independent Electricity System Operators, denies scientific facts of climate change.

They also criticized the province’s cancellation of almost 800 renewable energy projects as well as the cuts of funding to the LRT system in Hamilton.

The province recently told the city that funding to the LRT project were being cut because of ballooning costs. The group wrote that Hamilton has paid about $160 million over 10 years to start the LRT system.

After cancelling the LRT system, the city will have to pay enormous penalties to contractors who have already started work. Now, Hamiltonians will continue to drive emitting even more greenhouse gases, wrote the activist group.

The same activist group blocked the Bloor Viaduct for several hours back in September. It was part of an international protest to demand action on climate change, demanding the City of Toronto set concrete strategies to decrease emissions in the city.
