Hamilton is getting a huge skate park at Alexander Park

Hamilton will soon be getting a large, publicly accessible new skate park.

The city has proposed a brand new, 10,764 square foot skate park located at Alexander Park in Ward 1 and Hamilton’s west end.

“The concrete facility will be integrated with the park’s existing amenities and will cater to a variety of wheeled sports such as skateboarding, rollerblading, scooters and BMX bikes,” reads the proposal on the city website.

Located at 201 Whitney Avenue on over 10 acres of land, Alexander Park currently features amenities like hardball and softball fields, a play structure with swings, a splash pad, batting cages, and a washroom and storage building.

Recreation officials for the city completed an in-depth skate park study back in 2017, through which they singled out Alexander Park as a prime location for the eventual facility.

A project kick-off meeting is being hosted by the city in June of this year, which is open to all Hamilton residents as well as local businesses and stakeholders.

The purpose of the meeting will be for Hamiltonians to provide public feedback and input into the early process of designing the skate park. Interested individuals may be able to join a focus group that continues to provide input throughout the design process.

Following those initial meetings, a number of conceptual design renderings will be presented to the public, and an online vote will help determine the successful design. From there, the design will be developed into a more detailed construction plan, and the skate park will be constructed.

Interested residents can learn more and get information about the online kick-off meeting on the city website.
