Green thumbs, take note: Hamilton is once again offering free compost to locals for the 2024 spring season.
Throughout the year, the City collects residents’ leaf and yard waste, and that waste gets processed and turned into nutrient-rich compost at their outdoor composting facility.
Now, there are multiple dates at the end of April where locals can pick up free compost for their own personal use at home.
It’s that time again! Yard waste collected throughout the year has been turned into nutrient rich compost and we are giving it away to residents for free in April and May. Details: https://t.co/Dt8MzoBsi9 pic.twitter.com/n6C7Iptim1

The free compost will be available at Turner Park (344 Rymal Road East) on April 27th, May 4th, and May 11th from 7 am to 2 pm; at Joe Sam’s Park (752 Centre Road, Waterdown) on April 27th from 7 am to 2 pm; and at Bayfront Park on April 30th from 12 pm to 7 pm.
To claim the free compost, Hamilton residents simply need to bring their own shovels and containers, and will be limited to 2 people per vehicle at a pile of compost and a 15-minute time limit for loading.
The City stresses that this compost is for residents only and is not available for commercial use.
Though the compost is free of charge, the City is also accepting monetary donations in support of United Way.
