Hamilton will be hosting the 2020 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game

On Monday morning, the Hamilton Bulldogs announced that they will be hosting the 2020 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on Thursday January 16th, 2020.
The event is put on annually by the Canadian Hockey League to showcase the top NHL Draft eligible talents from Canada’s three major junior hockey leagues: the OHL, CHL, and WHL.
This year marks the 25th straight year that the CHL has put on the event. Hamilton will become the 17th different Canadian city to host the Top Prospects Game, joining a list of previous hosts that includes cities such as, Calgary, Halifax, St. Catharines, and most recently, Red Deer in 2019.
Hamilton Bulldogs president and general manager Steve Staios expressed excitement at the opportunity to host the event. He sees it as another “proud” opportunity for Hamilton to “showcase junior hockey to the country.”

While no Bulldogs players will be taking part in the game, the projected #1 and #2 picks this coming June will be playing. Alexis Lafreniere is an 18 year old left winger out of the Rimouski Oceanic in the QMJHL. He has been on the radar of NHL scouts and fans alike as the probable #1 pick in this draft since he burst onto the scene with a 42 goal rookie season in 2017-18.
Sudbury Wolves centreman Quinton Byfield has also been on scouting radars since 2017-18, when his combination of elite size (6’4, 214 as a teenager), speed, and skill allowed him to completely torch the ETAMMHL. He was taken first overall in the OHL draft that spring, and has been a star in the league ever since. Byfield currently sits second in OHL scoring with 57 points in 30 games.
Both players will also be playing on Canada’s World Junior Championship squad next week in the Czech Republic, where they are expected to star prominently on a very deep team that is pushing for gold.
The Hamilton Bulldogs will be selling tickets for this game starting at just $22. Season ticket holders will have first dibs with an immediate pre-sale, while the general public will have access later this spring.
