Man hides in Barton Walmart to steal $18,000 of electronics

A peculiar robbery earlier this year at the Centre on Barton’s Walmart have police still searching for the suspect.

Only July 26, the suspect entered Walmart just before closing time, walked down an aisle and hid inside a shelf.

Once the store was closed and staff began their closing duties, the suspect climbed out from his hiding place. After grabbing a plastic bin, the suspect proceeded to take items from the electronics section. Once the suspect’s bin was full, he walked out of the store with roughly $18,000 worth of goods.

The suspect did not pass any staff on his way out, nor did he set off any alarms as he walked through the store’s unlocked doors.

This type of theft is highly unusual, especially in Hamilton. Typically speaking, most robberies are break and enters. In this case, the suspect performed a ‘break out’ – he entered Walmart legally, but left unlawfully after committing an offence.

Once he’s caught, the suspect will face charges of theft over $10,000.

The suspect is described as a 35 to 40 year old white man, six-foot, 175 pounds with short dark brown hair and a visible tattoo on his forearm. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Anthony Santostefano (905-546-3849) or Det. Sgt. Emidio Evangelista (905-546-2991).
