Post-Thanksgiving round-up: some things to be thankful for in the Hammer this year

As we come away from a busy Thanksgiving weekend filled friends, family, and food, it’s important that we take time to reflect on some of the things that we are thankful for this year. Whether major life events or smaller blessings, we can all find something to be grateful for; especially right here in our own city.

Over the past few months, Hamilton has experienced a lot of special moments that we can be happy and proud about. From new openings to local accolades to beloved events, there is much to be grateful for in Hamilton this Thanksgiving season.

Hamilton’s Clifford Brewing was named Canadian Brewery of the Year

A year after opening their doors, a popular local brewery won Canadian Brewery of the Year at the Canadian Brewing Awards. Hamilton’s fast-growing brewery scene is quickly become more and more renowned for its quality and culture. The success of Clifford Brewing is hopefully just the start of even greater things to come to the city’s craft beer scene.

Hamilton’s sports teams had a very successful year

Between Forge FC kicking off its inaugural season, the Ti-Cats clinching playoffs for a second consecutive year, and the Bulldogs continuing to grow their program, the city has enjoyed a lot of athletic success in recent times. The city is also set to host an edition of Rogers Hometown Hockey in January, which will only put Hamilton sports on the map even more.

McMaster University continues to be amongst post-secondary school leaders in Canada and around the globe

The past few months have seen McMaster crack the top 75 in global post-secondary school rankings, and continue to set the benchmark for research and innovation, particularly in the health sciences, amongst Canadian schools. Hamilton residents can be proud and thankful for the top tier educational institution we have in our backyard.

The past year has also seen events like Supercrawl, the climate strike, political rallies and many more displays of the vibrant spirit and culture of the city. New businesses have opened, our food scene has continued to grow, and the city has even drawn some viral attention. As we all recover from food comas after a jam-packed Thanksgiving weekend, it’s nice to think about all of the things to be thankful for right here in Hamilton.
