As schools across the Hamilton area continue to add counts to their recorded COVID-19 cases, the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) has just confirmed a student case at Sherwood Secondary School: the first confirmed in an HWDSB high school.
According to a letter released by the school, the infected student’s last day in the building was September 25th. Sherwood Secondary was notified of the positive test result on October 2nd.

Out of caution, the student cohort associated with the positive case has been instructed by local public health to not attend in-person classes and self-isolate at home for 14 days.
Hamilton public health has also been working with Sherwood Secondary School to identify potential close contacts, including staff, as part of the contact tracing process.
While this is the first COVID-19 case confirmed at a high school in the HWDSB, a prior student case was confirmed recently at Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School within the Hamilton Catholic school board.
