This new online map tracks the rates of COVID-19 in Hamilton

In an effort to raise public awareness about the rates of spread for COVID-19 in the city, a new online map is being released that shows the regional locations within Hamilton affected by the novel coronavirus.

The interactive online map, created by Hamilton public health, officially goes live this Friday at 3 pm, which will be followed by a briefing from Hamilton’s medical offer of health Dr. Elizabeth Richardson at 3:30 pm on the city’s YouTube channel.

All of the city’s confirmed local cases will be documented on the map, along with the regions those cases were found in and the rate of spread per 100,000 population.

While the specifics of the map and local data won’t be revealed until then, Hamilton public health has indicated that virtually every region of Hamilton has been affected by COVID-19 since they city saw its first confirmed case a full three months ago on March 11th.

The map also shows that almost half of the local cases have been found within Hamilton’s lower city, while one quarter have been on the Hamilton Mountain. Cases have also been documented in surrounding areas like Dundas, Ancaster, Stoney Creek, and Flamborough.

The interactive map is launching on Friday June 12th at 3 pm through the City of Hamilton website.

Currently, Hamilton’s total number of confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases is 747, with 591 of those now considered resolved.

The city has also seen a recent increase in local cases among residents in their 20s; a trend which Hamilton public health says may be the result of some younger generations getting lax with public health guidelines.
