You can now vote for the worst road in Hamilton

After a one-year hiatus, the CAA Worst Roads Campaign is returning and looking for input from the public.

With a focus on education and safety, you can now vote for some of the worst roads in Ontario with the hope that local governments can prioritize infrastructure improvements for each of the areas.

“The campaign is a platform for all road users to highlight which roadway improvements should be prioritized by our different levels of government,” says Raymond Chan, government relations manager CAA SCO.

“The campaign gives decision-makers a snapshot of what roads the public perceives are not meeting their expectations.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the way people get around has changed. Many people are opting for bicycles or driving their own vehicles rather than public transit or carpooling.

So, CAA says that the improvement and maintenance of roadways should be a priority to many local governments around the province.

“Our roads are essential, they are the arteries used every day to keep workers, goods and services flowing and should be maintained more than ever,” adds Chan.

“As people are encouraged to stay home and telework during the pandemic, governments should continue to take advantage of lighter traffic patterns as an opportunity for road repair. These efforts can also be refocused on increasingly popular modes of transportation, such as cycling and walking.”

Some Hamilton roads that were included in the 2019 Worst Roads Program included Barton Street East and Burlington Street East.

To submit a vote for the worst road, you can visit the CAA website and tell them what road you think needs major improvement. The deadline is April 18th.
