One of Hamilton’s most special stores is set to close its doors.
Ten Thousand Villages, a national retail company that specializes in fair-trade and handmade products, is shutting down all brick & mortar and e-commerce operations across Canada later this year; including its lone Hamilton location on Locke Street. The company was in business for 74 fruitful years.

A staple of the Locke Street strip for more than a decade since its Hamilton storefront opened up shop in 2009, Ten Thousand Villages cemented itself as a go-to for unique gift ideas and handmade wares ranging from home décor, to clothing, to accessories, to artwork, and beyond.
Best of all? Everything available was 100% proudly fair-trade and ethically sourced worldwide from places like Africa, Asia, and the Middle East; a rare trait to find in a retail shop in Hamilton or elsewhere.
The sad forthcoming closure of Ten Thousand Villages leaves a considerable void in Hamilton; one that will hopefully be filled by another similarly sustainable business initiative in the future.
Ten Thousands Villages officially closes up shop on Locke Street on May 29th, 2020.
