Police in Burlington have been tightening up on vehicles driving around the city with “noisemaker” mufflers.
Halton police handed out 23 tickets and 6 warnings on Sunday to vehicles that didn’t have an appropriate muffler resulting in unnecessary noise.
A task force was created to find drivers in “noisemaker” vehicles after growing noise complaints from residents.
These two drivers were each issued no muffler tickets for their #noisemaker.

According to Halton Police, some drivers are removing their vehicle’s muffler and replacing it with a piece of pipe in order to make excessive noise.
The custom mufflers don’t only cause a disturbance in neighbourhoods, but also cause significant pollution because there is no catalytic converter to reduce toxic gas.
Although the task force has been focusing on Burlington, they say “noisemakers” are a problem throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
Drivers who are caught with a “noisemaker” will receive two tickets; one ticket for unnecessary noise and the other for having no muffler.
Halton Police in Burlington have started using the hashtag #noisemaker on Twitter to share pictures of what the pipes look like on the vehicles.
