A new Hamilton baby boutique gives free baby clothes to families in need

A brand new baby boutique in the heart of Barton Village has got the city’s marginalized families in mind.

The Baby Depot, which just opened its own storefront on Barton Street East, is a unique shop in that there isn’t a price attached to any of its products; they simply stock recycled and donated baby clothing and other essential gear, and provide it to local families in need free of charge.

The charitable boutique – led by Maggie John as Director and Stephanie Greenaway as Program Coordinator – officially opened its doors in the middle of June, with a mission to provide families in need with a year’s worth of baby clothing for free thanks to the help of donations.

Locals who want to donate baby clothing and other essential items can do so by sending a message to The Baby Depot through their website.

The boutique accepts gently used and brand new baby clothing in sizes 0 to 2T. They also accept coats, diapers, blankets, wipes, Vaseline, baby lotion, baby shampoo, diaper cream, new towels, and new or used washcloths.

Items that will not be accepted include used swim suits, used towels, used underwear, reusable diapers, stuffed animals, used toys, or any adult clothing.

In an effort to make their new Barton space a welcoming place for visiting families, The Baby Depot is currently accepting monetary donations as well so the shop can furnish, paint, and renovate the storefront.
