Beloved Italian restaurant closes after 27 years in Hamilton

A long-time fixture of Hamilton’s robust Italian food scene has announced it will be closing its doors.
La Piazza Allegra, located at 180 James Street South, has been a staple for Italian cuisine in Hamilton for the past 27 years, serving up well-crafted takes on traditional dishes from hearty pastas to antipasti to mains like ossobuco.
However, this classic restaurant’s time in Hamilton has come to an end, with La Piazza Allegra sharing the news of their closure on social media on November 10th.
“With mom and dad moving on to their next stage in life through retirement, and the next generation focused on other hospitality ventures such as Sasso Pizza Market & Bar and future (soon to be announced!) businesses, the business climate at James South & Duke no longer facilitates the vision of the organization,” wrote La Piazza Allegra’s executive chef Mark Farrugia.
“We look forward to serving you at Sasso Pizza Market & Bar or at one of our future endeavours.”
Loyal patrons of La Piazza Allegra have been sharing bittersweet farewells and fond memories on social media, proving how much this family-run Italian restaurant made an impact on the city for nearly three decades.

Luckily I went there just recently with family in September to celebrate my grandson’s 18th birthday and then again in October went to have dinner with my girlfriends to have a fabulous meal and time. We were never rushed and well looked after.
I have been there for many lunches with co-workers and dinners with friends and family over the years and had always had the best food and service.
All the best in your future endeavours. You will be truly missed.💋❤
