A Burlington location of a major Canadian department store will be permanently closing its doors next year.
Hudson’s Bay has announced its plans to close its location at Burlington Centre, with the store officially shuttering in June 2024 after being part of the shopping centre since 1991.
The company cites the reason for the closure as the fact that Hudson’s Bay currently has two locations in the relatively compact city of Burlington, with the second located in Mapleview Shopping Centre only a short distance away.
“While these decisions are difficult they are the right ones for our business, reflecting market changes and our vision for the future,” wrote the Hudson’s Bay Company in a statement.
“We are committed to treating every associate with respect and fairness through this process, and transfer opportunities will be explored where feasible.”
Hudson’s Bay will continue to operate its Mapleview store, as well as others in the area including Lime Ridge Mall in Hamilton and Oakville Place in Oakville.
