The people have spoken, as Monday night’s 44th federal election saw the Liberal Party win enough seats to form yet another minority government, with Justin Trudeau retaining his title as Prime Minister for a third term.
Though there are still around 800,000 mail-in ballots to be counted starting today, the Liberals are expected to win a number of seats falling below the 170 needed to form a majority government.
Thank you, Canada — for casting your vote, for putting your trust in the Liberal team, for choosing a brighter future. We're going to finish the fight against COVID. And we're going to move Canada forward. For everyone.

In fact, the final seat tallies for all parties aren’t expected to look all that much different from the previous House of Commons composition, which has left some Canadians wondering whether the call for a 36-day snap election during a pandemic was even worth it.
Nonetheless, the election results signal that the majority of Canadians trust the Liberals to continue leading the country through the impacts of the pandemic and other urgent election issues including the climate crisis, housing, affordability, child care, and Indigenous reconciliation.
“You are sending us back to work with a clear mandate to get Canada through this pandemic and to the brighter days ahead,” said Trudeau in his victory speech.
