A hiccup amidst the phased rollout of the COVID-19 across Canada, it has been announced that the arrival of further doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is being impacted by a temporary shipping delay.
Delivery of the vaccine to Canada and other countries is being temporarily reduced while the company works to scale up its European manufacturing facility, impacting the facility’s capacity to produce the vaccine for a short time period.

Pfizer has said that they believe they can catch up and resume distribution at normal levels by the end of March, and it is not believed that the delay will have significant impact on Canada’s long-term timeline for vaccinating the population.
So far, Canada has received roughly 380,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine, alongside further doses of the similarly effective Moderna vaccine.
Though the country was expected to have almost two million doses in hand by the end of February, that number may be affected by the delay.
That said, the federal government still holds its goal of having the COVID-19 vaccine readily available to any Canadian who wants it by the end of September of this year.
