In a blindsiding post to social media today, longstanding Hamilton staple Cheapies Records has announced that they are officially closing their doors.
Located in Hamilton’s downtown core at 67 King Street East for an impressive 40 whole years, Cheapies is an iconic Hamilton brand; a haven for local music lovers of all stripes loaded with exciting finds just waiting to be discovered. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find a Hamiltonian who hasn’t at least heard of Cheapies, if not being a regular patron of the unmissable central downtown storefront.
In the formal announcement made via Instagram, Cheapies owner Brian Jasson shared news of the closure to an immediate outpouring of love, support, shock, and heartbreak from local fans and loyal customers.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must formally announce, after owning and operating Cheapies for 40 years in downtown Hamilton, the store will permanently close on or before March 27th, 2020,” said Jasson in his heartfelt farewell post. “It’s now time to spend more time on myself and reflect on the countless great memories I have from Hamilton.”
Undoubtedly, Cheapies devotees of Hamilton will be reflecting on memories of this defining downtown staple in the much the same way.
Go visit Cheapies Records at 67 King Street East for final farewells and final music finds before the end of March.
