Hamilton Airport sets record with nearly 1M passengers for 2019

Hamilton’s airport has been soaring to impressive new heights in the last few years.
In a recent celebratory announcement, John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport released details of the unprecedented growth in passenger and cargo traffic in the last three years.
In 2019 alone, Hamilton Airport saw a stellar 955,373 total passengers travel through the airport; a 32 per cent growth over 2018, 60 per cent growth over 2017, and 187 per cent growth over 2016.
Better still, the airport forecasts similar growth through 2020, especially with the addition of brand new routes via budget airline Swoop travelling from Hamilton to Charlottetown, St. John’s, and Moncton.

Passengers aside, Hamilton Airport has shown similarly steady growth in cargo shipping and receiving, remaining Canada’s largest overnight express cargo airport.
Since 2016, the airport has seen an overall 21 per cent increase in its cargo activity; growth that has played a role in shipping company DHL Canada’s investment in a new fully-automated, 200,000 square foot sorting facility attached to the airport. DHL Canada broke ground on the facility in 2019, and it is poised to be their largest Canadian facility upon its completion.
The immense overall growth not only puts Hamilton on the map, it helps to drive the city forward economically as well.
