City of Hamilton invites locals to weigh in on garbage collection

If you’ve got opinions on municipal garbage collection in Hamilton, the city doesn’t want you to ‘waste’ (see what I did there?) those thoughts. A new survey has been launched by the City of Hamilton in order to collect data on residents’ thoughts regarding local waste management practices.

The City of Hamilton Solid Waste Management Resident Survey was officially launched on Tuesday January 7th and will continue to collect responses for two months up until February 7th. The purpose of the survey is to receive feedback from Hamilton residents regarding their views on current waste management practices, and assess short-term potential plans for waste reduction, diversion, and management programs in the city.

The eventual goal, according to the survey, is to minimize overall waste accumulation within Hamilton, in particular to lengthen the functionality of the Glanbrook Landfill.

The topic of waste management in the city has been a popular one lately. Hamilton residents may recall the recent consideration of adopting a bi-weekly waste collection in the city; this motion was put forth by Ward 8 city councillor Paul Danko as a possible means of positively impacting local waste diversion, as well as saving taxpayer dollars. Though the idea received strong community support, it was ultimately voted down.

With this new in-depth survey, Hamilton residents can have their say on city waste management and help enact positive change for current and future practices.

Interested Hamilton locals can take the survey here.
