City rejects plans for massive marijuana greenhouse

As Hamilton prepares for this October’s legalization of marijuana, the city has had to create new rules and regulations for the drug. From distribution to where the product can be grown, Hamilton’s new rules have already interfered with one company’s plans to expand their business into the city.

Just this week, Canadian medical marijuana company The Green Organic Dutchman had their request for a massive Ancaster greenhouse denied.

The Green Organic Dutchman made a request to build a 150,000-square-foot greenhouse on Jerseyville Road in Ancaster. As Hamilton has placed a maximum size limit of 24,000 square feet on medical marijuana facilities, the company’s request was ultimately rejected.

Despite being over six times the maximum size limit, the company will be filing a tribunal appeal. The process of such an appeal could take months, if not an entire year, to go through.

The company has full permission to build a 24,000-square-foot growing and research facility if they so choose.

Are you for or against having a 150,000-square-foot marijuana green house in Ancaster? Let us know in the comments.
