Confederation GO Station poised to be Hamilton’s next big residential community

Many prominent patches of the city are on the developmental rise, with communities like James North and Crown Point rapidly cementing themselves as Hamilton’s hottest spots to live, work, and play.

But what about some of the lesser-considered areas of the Hammer? What if the Stoney Creek area surrounding the newly-established Confederation GO Station was on track to becoming one of Hamilton’s biggest residential communities?

According to Stoney Creek Councillor Chad Collins, the idea just might have some promise.

Last week, Collins introduced a motion as part of Hamilton’s employment land review study that proposes a mixed-used development of residential and commercial properties; a proposal that could effectively change the area’s current designation for industrial developments.

Collins believes such a proposal would be “ideal” in terms of the area’s overall growth, pointing out that major growth has followed in the developing areas surrounding GO Stations.

The proposal makes a great deal of sense, too; introducing a large residential community to the area surrounding a GO Station would make the area a hot spot for locals; especially those who need quick and easy access to transit and are eyeing the feature of a convenient commute when it comes to finding a place in the city to settle down.

This location may prove to become even more promising, as Metrolinx is exploring the possibility of future hourly train service out of Confederation GO Station, including hourly two-way train service from East Hamilton to Toronto.

Any future development of the area, which currently includes land situated at 395 Centennial Parkway North, 25 Arrowsmith Road, and 185 Bancroft Street, is currently more than muddy in terms of timeline. That said, developers breaking ground may happen sooner than we think: actions are moving quickly in terms of developers submitting applications to establish sizeable residential and commercial developments along Centennial Parkway.
