COVID-19 vaccine now open to more essential workers, at-risk Hamilton residents

More groups in Hamilton are officially eligible to book an appointment for their COVID-19 vaccine, include a wider pool of essential frontline workers, residents with at-risk health conditions, and locals ages 40 and up.
To date, Hamilton has administered at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccines to roughly 42 per cent of residents over the age of 16.
THIS WEEK: Hamilton’s COVID-19 vaccination program expands to include individuals with at-risk health conditions, individuals from “Cannot Work from Home – Group 2” (effective May 11), and individuals ages 40+ (effective May 13).

As of today – Tuesday, May 11th – even more locals from the aforementioned identified groups can book their vaccine appointments online via the Ontario vaccine booking portal.
Those without a computer can book their appointments via phone by calling Hamilton public health’s COVID-19 hotline at 905-974-9848, option 7.
Hamilton residents with the following at-risk health conditions are eligible:
- Stroke and cerebrovascular disease
- Dementia
- Diabetes
- Liver disease
- All cancers
- Respiratory diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, pleurisy
- Spleen problems, such as asplenia
- Heart disease
- Hypertension with end organ damage
- Diagnosed mental disorders
- Substance use disorders
- Sickle cell disease
- Thalassemia
- Immunocompromising health conditions
- Other disabilities requiring direct support
Residents who cannot work from home and fall under Group Two for the vaccine rollout plan are eligible in the following categories:
- Essential and critical retail workers including grocery workers, restaurant workers, LCBO workers, public facing government agency workers such as ServiceOntario, pharmacy workers, and wholesalers
- Workers in manufacturing industries directly involved in supporting COVID-19 response
- Social workers and social services staff providing in-person client services
- Court and justice system workers
- Transportation, warehousing, and distribution workers
- Electricity workers
- Communications infrastructure workers
- Water and wastewater management workers
- Financial services workers, including bank branch staff
- Veterinarians
- Waste management workers
- Oil and petroleum workers
- Natural and propane gas workers
- Mine workers
- Uranium processing workers
When booking an appointment, Hamilton residents will be required to self-attest to their health condition or essential work position.
