The Rebecca Towers Residents Committee is currently seeking donations to fund PPE and food items in aid of residents who are stuck in the building while self-isolating after a COVID-19 outbreak.
Rebecca Towers was one of three high rises in Hamilton that have recently experienced mass COVID outbreaks with numbers soaring over 100 cases in the building.
We hope to deliver to the second half of the building (another 80 families) on SAT MAY 29, but we are currently low on funds. We have a goal of raising $5K by FRI MAY 28 to make this happen. Over the May long weekend, members of the tenants committee delivered 80 boxes of fresh groceries and PPE to almost every unit in the building.
On Saturday May 29th, the tenants committee hopes to make deliveries of donations to the second half of the building, which includes about 80 families.
However, as of Tuesday afternoon, they are low on funding in order to properly execute the level of resources required to help everyone affected.
The residents self-isolating at Rebecca Towers have been vocal about how the property management company and municipal government have been almost no help in supporting people in the building.
According to the Rebecca Towers Resident Committee Twitter page, the company that owns the building, Medallion Corporation, has completely left the building and haven’t returned to sanitize public use areas.
Rebecca Towers is one of many outbreaks in apartment buildings in the GTA and GTHA with White Oaks in Whitby having one of the quickest growing outbreaks in the area.
Visit the Rebecca Towers Residents Committee website to find out more information about how to donate to help them create care boxes for self-isolating residents. Donations are needed by Friday, May 28th if they are to reach their goal of $5,000.
