Employee at Freewheel Cycle in Dundas tests positive for COVID-19

An employee at Freewheel Cycle, Dundas’ iconic bike shop, has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently self-isolating, according to a statement from the business.
The news was originally shared by Freewheel Cycle through their Facebook page two days ago, where the shop explained that, though the employee has not worked in the store since September 23rd, the shop is currently temporarily closed out an abundance of caution.
A follow-up message posted to the shop’s official website yesterday further explained the situation, saying that due to the current demand for COVID-19 testing, the infected employee waited 5 days to be tested and an additional 5 days to receive the positive test result.
The shop’s statement also puts a spotlight on Freewheel Cycle’s commitment to the highest level of health & safety.
“Anyone who has visited us during this pandemic has witnessed our commitment to the safety of our staff and customers. Heck, we required masks before they were cool,” said Freewheel Cycle in their statement. “And we ask all customers to sanitize their hands upon entry and staff are required to wear masks even after hours.”
“Because of our adherence to precautions and the immediate actions of the unfortunate employee, we were able to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus at Freewheel Cycle. None of our other staff are exhibiting symptoms.”
Additionally, though local public health has given Freewheel Cycle the go-ahead to reopen their doors as of Tuesday, the shop is holding off until Thursday to allow for more time to ensure the store is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.
“We would like to thank our customers for following both the protocols of Public Health, and our in store protocols as well as staying home if they feel unwell, and likewise to our amazing staff.”
