For those days where mental health can be a barrier to even the simplest self-care, an interdisciplinary Hamilton artist has created a special hybrid of a cookbook and zine.
The cookbook is called Depression Cooking: Easy Recipes for When You’re Depressed as F*** and it’s written by Sonali Menezes as both an art piece and an extremely practical handbook for how to keep yourself nourished even on the toughest of mental health days.
Full of self-care tips, simple and nutritious recipes, and anecdotal passages, the cookbook/zine balances a playful and artful approach with valuable information that could prove useful for those who struggle with depression.
The recipes, which Menezes has compiled through her own repertoire as well as those sourced by friends, family, and internet strangers, include dishes like no-fry kimchi fried rice, scrambled eggs, adult Lunchables, and mac & cheese.
Best of all, Depression Cooking is being offered for free through local independent arts institution Hamilton Artists Inc, and can be downloaded as a PDF on their website or even as a print copy that can be mailed directly to you, pending supply.
