Hamilton cashes in with local casino

When most Hamiltonians think about hitting the slot machines, they immediately think about travelling to Niagara Falls or Brantford. The next time you’re in the mood to press your luck at a casino, you only have to travel to Dundas.

Since joining the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation in May, Elements Casino Flamboro has raked in a hefty amount of money for the city. In three months, the Dundas gaming facility has earned Hamilton a total of $1,683,486.

The payment made by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) consists of what the city earned through the casino’s first quarter. The amount paid was determined by a provincial agreement that ensures municipalities receive funding for hosting gaming facilities.

The amount paid out each quarter varies as it is based upon a graduated scale of gaming revenue. The more people visit and gamble, the more money the city makes.

The money the city receives from the institution will support Hamilton as a whole. Some of the programs the revenue supports include healthcare, education and social services.

As the gaming facility is a part of the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation, the company also invests a portion of their proceeds to projects in Hamilton.

Have you ever been to Elements Casino Flamboro? Where would you like to see the revenue allocated? Let us know in the comments.
