A result of the ongoing labour actions of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (EFTO) in response to its dispute with Ford’s Progressive Conservative provincial government, elementary school students in the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and beyond will not be receiving formal report cards this term.
A letter was issued to parents and guardians of students in the HWDSB explaining that the labour actions and rolling strikes impact a number of usual school services, including not issuing term-one report cards, indefinitely suspending all extracurricular activities and after-school sports activities, and cancelling field trips until February 7th at the earliest.

The EFTO’s job action limits elementary teachers’ involvement in preparing report cards, and that they are to instead provide their schools’ administrations with lists of marks for each class in lieu of creating and issuing standard report cards.
The notice comes on the heels of other job action-related news, including the recent cancellation of the grade 9 EQAO math test.
Other by-products of the job action, including school day cancellations and the ongoing regional rotating strikes across Ontario, continue until further notice.
