Hamilton gets the green light to move to Phase 2 of reopening this week

Looks like Hamilton doesn’t have to wait much longer after all, as the city has just been given the green light to move ahead to Phase 2 of reopening the economy this coming Friday, June 19th at 12:01 am.

The news today comes very shortly after most – but not all – of Ontario was allowed to move to the second phase of reopening last week. However, much of the Golden Horseshoe, including Hamilton, was excluded.

But an official announcement from the Province of Ontario issued this afternoon said that Hamilton is one of the handful of originally-excluded regions that gets to reopen more of the economy and resume select businesses and services.

So what does that mean for Hamilton? Just some of the businesses allowed to reopen in Phase 2 include hairdressers and barbers – finally, haircuts! – as well as shopping malls, salons and spas, restaurants and bars for distanced patio access only, film & television production, beaches, outdoor recreational facilities excluding playgrounds, campsites, and drive-in entertainment venues.

However, these reopenings naturally come with conditions. All eligible businesses and services must be able to implement and enforce proper health & safety and physical distancing measures, including limiting the number of people in a space, ensuring proper spacing is maintained, and wearing face coverings.

Hamiltonians are encouraged to enter Phase 2 activities responsibly, and to maintain the province’s health & safety guidelines including wearing a face mask, practicing physical distancing, regularly washing your hands, and avoiding gathering in groups.
