Hamilton is getting a boat-sharing service this year

We’ve all heard of bike share; but have you heard of boat share?

Well, Hamilton is about to get its own boat-sharing program that will allow locals with the appropriate license to easily rent a boat at the city’s Harbour West Marina.

Helmed by the Finnish company Skipperi, the boat-sharing program is entering Ontario for the first time beginning May 1st, with boat-share serving cities like Hamilton, Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, St. Catharines, Scarborough, and Pickering.

The boat-share will function as a monthly subscription program, with individuals who have their Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) able to rent out one of Skipperi’s fleet of boats between May and October each year.

Aside from the cost of the subscription and their own fuel consumption, users don’t need to worry about anything else: Skipperi handles things like maintenance so users can simply take a boat out for a spin, refuel it, and leave it docked at its original location.

Subscriptions can be managed through Skipperi’s smartphone app, giving users an easy, efficient way to rent out a boat and take it for a spin.

More information about Skipperi can be found on their website
