Following the announcement that a popular Walmart location in County Fair Plaza at Upper Sherman and Mohawk Road would be permanently closing, a firm final date for the superstore has been set.
The official closure date for this Hamilton Mountain Walmart location is August 27th, 2021, at which point the only functional storefront of the entire plaza will be a location of The Beer Store.

This location of Walmart is one of six locations across Canada that will be closed by the superstore giant, including locations in Mississauga, Kitchener, Edmonton, Calgary, and St. John’s.
In addition, numerous Walmart locations around the country – including another in Hamilton at Upper James and Fennell – will be renovated and upgraded.
Walmart Canada is investing over $500 million total into these nationwide upgrades, with $4.6 million of that dedicated to the Upper James and Fennell location.
As of now, it is unclear if a new tenant will be taking up the former Walmart space. It is equally unclear what will happen at the longstanding County Fair Plaza in general, as most of the plaza sits empty.
