A longstanding, beloved Irish pub in Hamilton’s east end has announced that it will be permanently closing its doors later this year.
Rebel’s Rock Irish Pub, which has been a homey local favourite for pub bites, drinks, and live music for 20 years, announced via social media that July 31st, 2021 will be the pub’s final day of operations before closing up shop.
Owners of Rebel's Rock Irish Pub in Hamilton are having a subdued #StPatricksDay but are celebrating a grand reopening after being closed for weeks! Far from the usual, but better than being closed, like they were last St. Patrick's! @CHCHNews @Keith_eng pic.twitter.com/UxBeKicEdW

In the meantime, Rebel’s Rock is continuing to offer curbside pickup of dishes from their menu, and will eventually reopen for some patio dining following directives from the province and public health. There are also plans for some bands to do livestream concerts.
The pub will not be reopening its indoor dining room at all prior to its official closure at the end of July.
“Thank you Hamilton for 20 years of support,” reads a message on Rebel Rock’s social media.
“You touched us and we touched you. For the next 2 months let us party as best we can.”
The announcement was met with an outpouring of heartbroken comments and messages from longstanding Rebel’s Rock patrons who are sad to see the lived-in local favourite bid farewell to the city.
One comment in particular tells a story that well captures what Rebel’s Rock meant to its community.
“When we were house-hunting and went to look at our house we were locked out. As our agent tried to get a hold of the selling agent, we decided to wait it out at the local pub,” reads one comment.
“We loved Rebel’s Rock so much, we bought the house!”
