Charles Juravinski – a businessman and philanthropist known for his multimillion dollar investments in healthcare in Hamilton – has died at the age of 92.
Hand-in-hand with his wife of 65 years, Margaret Juravinski, Charles made monumental contributions to healthcare research and innovation in the fights against cancer, mental health, COVID-19, and much, much more.
In fact, the Juravinskis had just made a $5.1 million gift to support Hamilton health research just one day prior to Charles’ death on February 16th, 2022 at Margaret’s Place – a hospice in Margaret Juravinski’s name at St. Joseph’s Villa in Dundas.

“Businessman, philanthropist, entrepreneur and lifelong Hamilton lover – Charles Juravinski never tired of praising his adopted hometown, nor of sharing his good fortune with the people living in it,” reads a memorial release.
“Whether he was walking the halls of a city hospital or on the phone with politicians or university presidents, he loved to talk about all of the attributes that make Hamilton great. He was especially fond of the partnerships that brought the best people in health research and health care together for the greater good.”
Of all of the monumental contributions to healthcare, the most notable is their endowment of over $100 million to provide up to $5 million per year in perpetuity to important local institutions like McMaster University, Hamilton Health Science, and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.
The $100 million endowment in the form of the Juravinski Research Institute is one of the largest legacy gifts in Canada’s history.
With the prominence of Juravinski’s name adorning numerous health facilities across the city, it’s beyond clear that Charles Juravinski’s significant impact will continue to reverberate for years, decades, and generations to come.
