Hamilton school board is holding a public anti-bullying panel tonight

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) is holding a public panel this evening so locals can add their voice to the discussion on anti-bullying policies in local schools.

This public feedback session is being held tonight, Wednesday February 12th at 6 pm, at Westmount Secondary School in Hamilton.

The session comes after a live broadcast panel discussion from this afternoon hosted by CBC Hamilton, featuring guests including Dr. Jean Clinton (Professor of Child Psychiatry at McMaster University), and Brenda Flaherty (former Executive Vice President and COO at Hamilton Health Sciences, and current Assistant Professor at McMaster’s School of Nursing).

This is set to be the first of a number of similar sessions held locally by the Safe Schools Bullying Prevention and Intervention Review Panel.

At this evening’s session, attendees will be able to ask questions and weigh in on proactive steps being taken to prevent bullying in schools of all levels in Hamilton.

Bullying issues have certainly always been a hot-button issue in schools in Hamilton and beyond, and this a more urgent push for action has come recently with an increase in notable incidents; including the one which led to the senseless murder of Sir Winston Churchill Secondary student Devan Selvey late last year.

Weigh in on the conversation in tonight’s open public feedback session at Westmount Secondary School (39 Montcalm Drive) at 6 pm.
